General

The next few topics are bound to describe just the specific issues when creating Line 21 or digital closed captions. It is supposed that by this point you are familiar with the product.
Working with closed captions (CC) often needs a different approach compared to the open subtitling process.
OOONA Tools provide additional features to address these requirements. Some of these options are available only when you are working in Closed Captions mode. Our apps come with a predefined mode focused on the tools for Closed Captioning. For compatibility, you might need to switch this mode on in Project Settings before starting.

Default settings are made for CEA-608 captions standard, so the screen is divided into 32 columns which also means that there might be no more than 32 characters for each text line. A monospaced font is used for preview.

The following closed captions file formats are supported on export:
Scenarist Closed Caption Format (SCC)
Cheetah (CAP)
Ultech (ULT) Captions
SMPTE-TT CEA-608 Captions (.xml)
