Overview
The file name validation functionality can be used to enforce a specific name on files that are uploaded to tasks or exported from the Toolkit.
If a file with a name that doesn’t match the file validation is uploaded, the user receives a warning detailing what the required file name is. This will also prevent the upload.
It can also be used as the name of files being exported from the Toolkit, instead of the FileNaming configuration.
Configuration
File name validation will need to be set up at the file type and customer level.
Both file type and customer need to have file name validation set up for it to be applied.
File type level
To set it at file type level, go to Administrator > Tables > File tables > File types and click the magnifying glass in the Edit column (1). Switch the “Requires file name validation” toggle on (2).
Customer level
To set it at customer level, go to Manager > Rolodex tables > Customers and click the magnifying glass in the Edit column (1). Turn the “Requires file name validation” toggle switch on (2).
Applying file name validation
Once the necessary configurations at the file and customer level are ready, the required file name needs to be populated at either the step (language) or product level.
Applying at the step (language) level
The file name validation at the step level can be set from Order info > Steps:
Within the Steps page, the name requires for the files of each step can be populated in the “Step broadcast file number” column.
This name will be enforced on all files uploaded to tasks within the step.
If this field is left empty and no configuration is present at the product level, the system will let the user upload a file with any name.
In the following example, the system will require files uploaded to tasks within the Portuguese or French steps to be named “Friends_PT-PT” and “Friends_FR-FR”, respectively.
Applying at the product level
The file name validation at the product level can be set from Order info > Pricing tab, using the “Product broadcast file number” column.
This name will be enforced on all files uploaded to tasks within the specified product and step.
In the following example, the system will require the files uploaded to tasks within the “Subtitling #1” product, in the French step, to be named “Friends_subtitles_FR”.
The Portuguese step will allow files with any name to be uploaded or apply a file name at the step level, if populated.
If this field is left empty and no configuration is present at the step level, the system will let the user upload a file with any name.
Applying to exports from the Toolkit
If populated at the step or product level, it will take precedent over the FileNaming configuration and be applied when exporting files from the Toolkit. This uses the same configuration as the as when applying it to uploaded files.
