Pivot languages

Overview

Orders allow for the use of a pivot language, a language that will serve as a basis for other languages, allowing for more streamlined workflows.

This language will be treated as the source language of all languages that follow it, disregarding the order’s source language.

The system will also filter the assignable resources and assign rates based on it.

Customer pricing will still apply the order’s original source language for invoicing.

If the order has Japanese as source language and English as pivot, followed by Portuguese and Spanish, all languages will be invoiced as having Japanese as source, but Portuguese and Spanish will be paid considering English their source language.

Configuration

System

This functionality can be enabled from: Administrator > Web administrator > Configuration > Settings, using the new option “Enable pivot language”.

Once enabled, in the order creation page the “Use pivot language” option will be available.

The “Use pivot language” option can only be enabled if the order has at least 2 target languages.

The same option will also be available in the Order info page:

Workflow templates

To ensure the workflow works as expected, it’s recommended to use the “Source/Pivot language” followed by the “Target language/s” dynamic steps.

This will ensure the first selected target language will have the structure specified in the “Source/Pivot language” step, while any additional target languages will follow the structure of the “Target language/s”, duplicating it as necessary.

Using pivot languages in orders

The pivot language can also be enabled or disabled in existing orders via the new toggle in the Order info page.

Once enabled, the system will add a field to specify which language will be treated as the pivot.

This will always be the first selected target language, or, after the order is created, the first language after Pre production.

Please note: enabling or disabling the pivot language after production has begun can cause assignments or rates to no longer be valid.
